DIY Mini Spray Paint Ornaments

mini spray paint ornaments

I might be biased but I do think everything is cuter in miniature including these mini spray paint ornaments.  Part of the mini tool tree ornament collection these spray paint cans are fairly simple to make.

I first shared these ornaments last Fall on Instagram:

And they finally made it onto the mini tool tree along with all the other miniature tool ornaments.

bench sander to make can shape

Step 1: Cut the 3/4" circular dowel into 2 1/2" lengths.  Use the side disc portion of a belt sander with the table tilted at 45 degrees and sand off the hard edge of one end.

Step 2: Predrill a 1/4" hole in the center top portion of the dowel.  Apply a dab of wood glue and insert the short piece of 1/4" dowel into the hole.

Step 3: Paint the top and bottom portion of the can using metallic silver acrylic craft paint.  Once dry paint the nozzle portion white.

Step 4: Print out the labels onto regular paper.  Trim to fit can and use double stick tape to attach to can.

Step 5: Insert screw eye into upper back portion of can.  Make a small dot on the nozzle using a black Sharpie marker.  Finally add bakers twine to make a hanger.

I packed up all the tools for one tool tree into an inexpensive plastic storage container for easy shipping:
